The Southestern Association of Advocates for Women in Science and Medicine (AAWSM) is a collaboration founded to equip future leaders in academia with the knowledge and skills needed to promote the recognition and professional development of women in academic medicine and biomedical sciences. We aim to provide a platform for mentoring leaders at all stages of professional development, as well as engage the academic community to address the challenges faced by women in academic medicine.

The backdrop of the exquisite city of New Orleans could not be more fitting for this meeting. New Orleans embraces all its visitors with incredible cultural diversity and its rich heritage. While you’re at AAWSM 2019, don’t forget to explore both the downtown and uptown neighborhoods of New Orleans during one of its most vibrant seasons of the year. This meeting is not only an invitation for all advocates of women in science and medicine (both male and female) to engage in thought-provoking discussions and brainstorm ways to get past institutional barriers, but also to have fun!
